I’ve been thinking about how time just passes by so quickly. Honestly, it seems like it was only yesterday that we arrived in the United States. This year, it will be 48 years since we came. I can still feel the excitement of that airplane ride. As I mentioned in my book, "Our American Story", we traveled by land from Lima to Guayaquil, Ecuador, and that was an incredible experience.
Sometimes I wonder if it was all worth it. At times, when I bring up the topic with my mom, she says, “We should have stayed in Peru.” She wonders if we could have done things differently and if we all could have become professionals there. Whenever she says that, I immediately reply, “Mom, coming to the U.S. was one of the best things we could have ever done.”
Without going into every detail, I just think of my children who were born here: Dany, Isabella, Francesco, and Valentina. They are so amazing, and I feel extremely lucky and proud of them.
Aside from that, I always think about how much I’ve accomplished by being in this country. It isn't perfect—nothing is—but I thank my parents for having the cojones to bring the entire family here. One of my promises has always been not to write about politics because I truly believe every single one of them is scum, without exception.

He estado pensando en lo rápido que pasa el tiempo. Honestamente, parece que fue ayer cuando llegamos a los Estados Unidos. Este año se cumplirán 48 años desde nuestra llegada. Todavía puedo sentir la emoción de aquel viaje en avión. Como mencioné en mi libro, "Nuestra Historia Americana", viajamos por tierra desde Lima hasta Guayaquil, Ecuador, y esa fue una experiencia increíble.
A veces me pregunto si todo valió la pena. En ocasiones, cuando saco el tema con mi mamá, ella dice: "Debimos habernos quedado en el Perú". Ella piensa que podríamos haber hecho las cosas de otra manera y que todos ustedes podrían haber sido profesionales allá. Cada vez que ella dice eso, le respondo de inmediato: "Mamá, venir a los EE. UU. fue una de las mejores cosas que pudimos haber hecho".
Sin entrar en detalles, pienso en cada uno de mis hijos que nacieron en este país: Dany, Isabella, Francesco y Valentina. Son maravillosos, y me siento extremadamente afortunado y orgulloso de ellos.
Aparte de todo eso, siempre pienso en las muchas cosas que he logrado por estar en este país. No es perfecto, nada lo es, pero agradezco a mis padres por haber tenido los cojones de traer a toda la familia aquí. Una de mis promesas ha sido siempre no escribir sobre política, porque realmente creo que cada uno de ellos es una basura, sin excepción.
