Today is an interesting day because it’s Friday the 13th. This year, there are actually three of them. In this country, it is widely considered a day that brings bad luck, but all of that is relative. I try not to pay much attention to the superstitions and just go about my day, though I know some people are very conscious of the date and choose to take it easy.
The ones who really take advantage of this day are those in Hollywood. They release specific scary movies for the occasion and, obviously, make a lot of money. However, movies are not what they used to be. In the old days, the truly scary movies were about ghosts, and in my opinion, those are still the most frightening. Modern horror movies feel a bit too "easy" to make; most are about serial killers, which are a frequent and tragic occurrence in this country—something that feels more like a shame and an embarrassment than entertainment.
It just so happens that tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. It feels very strange to celebrate a day of love, romance, and friendship immediately after a day filled with scary movies and "murders" in the cinema. In any event, stay safe this Friday the 13th, and I hope you enjoy a wonderful day of romance or friendship on Valentine’s Day!

Hoy es un día interesante porque es viernes 13. Este año, curiosamente, tendremos tres de ellos. En este país, se considera un día que trae mala suerte, pero todo eso es relativo. Yo trato de no prestarle mucha atención y simplemente sigo con mi día, aunque sé que algunas personas son muy conscientes de la fecha y prefieren tomárselo con calma.
Quienes realmente aprovechan este día son los de Hollywood. Producen películas de terror específicas para la ocasión y, obviamente, ganan mucho dinero. Sin embargo, el cine ya no es lo que era. En los viejos tiempos, las películas que de verdad asustaban eran las de fantasmas; en mi opinión, esas siguen siendo las más terroríficas. Las películas de miedo actuales parecen demasiado fáciles de hacer; la mayoría tratan sobre asesinos en serie, algo que ocurre con mucha frecuencia en este país, lo cual es una lástima y una vergüenza.
Da la casualidad de que mañana es el Día de San Valentín. Resulta muy extraño celebrar un día de amor, romance y amistad justo después de un día lleno de películas de terror y "asesinatos" en las salas de cine. En cualquier caso, ¡cuídense mucho este viernes 13 y disfruten de un día de romance o amistad en San Valentín!
